Overheard at the pool table:"That's how I roll!"
"Are you going to cry now?"
"My grandma hits better than you!"
"What's the matter, can't take the heat?"
Us women were "clucking" together. See that woman in the white sweater? That's my Great Aunt Emmy who is 93 years old, sharp as a tack and was still playing golf and driving last year! She is an inspiration!
Is there anything better than spending time with a big group of your family members? I don't think so!
Great post Shelley. I went to a family reunion this past July--and there were over 100 there. THAT was a little overwhelming for me. I'd prefer smaller groups at a time. Yours seemed perfect.

Family gatherings are one of the best things about the holidays. It sounds as if you had a great time.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to a family reunion for a couple of years now but I got to meet family I had hearof but never met. They be lots of fun and your Aunt Emmy is a good inspiration.

We used to do that every Christmas Eve with my mother's side of the family until too many moved to places too far removed (Florida) to make attendance practical, the numbers got to large from great grandchildren starting to show up (I think the largest gathering was of 73 individuals), and the numbers of Mom's brothers and sisters began dropping as they reached their late 60s and 70s. (She had six sisters and one brother but we halted the reunions when there were just two of her sisters remaining. Mom herself passed away three years earlier.)

What a good time that must have been. Family reunions are wonderful and so often we don't see each other except at a funeral and then we say,.. "we really need to have a reunion and not meet at a sad time." Kudos to you and your family for doing just that! and special kudos to Aunt Emmy,.. I want to grow up to be just like her!

ReplyDeleteI had a Great Aunt Emmy!!! Her real name was Emma but when we were young we called her Aunt Emmy!
Sometime just for fun we should count up the similarities in our lives.

Betsy - wow - you had a real big reunion! We just had about 40 people yesterday.

Michelle - I can't believe how healthy and sharp she is for 93.
Connie - I think the prospect of seeing more of the extended family speeded up my recovery!
Jen - I used to have a guy at my last job always asking me what i was clucking about with the other hens - always made me laugh!
Joated - it does seem to get hard to coordinate such big gatherings and getting everyone's schedule aligned.
Cedar - even her hearing is great! She really is remarkable!
Wendy - OF COURSE! I swear we are on parrallel universes! My Aunt Emmy's real name is Emerald - perfect for her.
