First surprise - seeing a fox for the 1st time in my life. She had a few kits with her too. We definitely locked eyes through my cabin window. I bet she could see me smiling....
2nd surprise was having baby Robins hatch in the eaves of our log cabin. Anytime I made a sound on the deck, 3 little heads would pop up looking for food.
And my best surprise........was my Loons coming back to our lake. I believe they are going to try to nest again. And I'm going to do whatever is in my power to help them. I am looking into getting an artificial nesting raft for my Loons as well as buoys to protect them. More on that later......but can you hear my heart singing once again? :-)
I'VE SEEN A FOX!! i didn't even know we had then in So Cal, and one night - I was driving up an old road we call Bear Mtn. Rd, (cause that's where the bears are - it's really called Golden Hills - not nearly as exciting for the kids!) and there it was! Darted up on the road and scampered along in front of me and then took off back down the side of the hill. Little sucker was FAST!

Your little fox looks like he is wearing boots. Love the baby robins and theirsweet bald heads. You know I love the loons and do miss them here. Lucky lady you are. Hows Scout my "little" sweetie.

Our prayers have been answered! Kits, robins and the sweet possibility of baby loons - peace, quiet (although we know that the only time its quiet in the woods is when a hawk or eagle flies over - lol) and sweet Scout! Oh yeah - and Greg ;)

You can soon do an entire album on nature's finest. I know it would sell because you put your heart into it. We are happy because you are happy...the Loons have returned. Great post!

Hey Shelley! Do you have a lake association and will they allow a loon raft? It's too late for me to ask our lake association, but I fear that my loons eggs get eaten before they hatch.
ReplyDeleteHi Denise - our lake association allows it - but you can also contact the Michigan Loon Preservation Association - sometimes the loon rafts are donated. If the Loons already laid the eggs, it's too late. But, if you feel like they're threatened, you can purchase special buoys (the Loon assoc has a source) that will keep people away.)
