Wildfire

Remember that song...."she ran calling Wildfire......" It was by Michael Martin Murphy. I love the songs of the 70's and this was one of my favorites. When Greg and I went for a day trip down to the Manistee River recently, we saw this woman riding her horse down the River. Can you imagine what a beautiful ride that was.....wish that was me.....sigh.....

Special Note To Greg: I want a pony and I'm going to name it Wildfire!
For the rest of you, I've posted the video below.

  8. One of my favorite songs of old. I will be singing it all day. The gal on the horse down the river is so much like my daughter, and come think of it, myself, in the day. My twin and I lived on our horses. Thanks for the sweet memories.

  17. When we were living in Southern Colorado, Dave and I spent a weekend skiing in Taos, New Mexico and saw him at the Sagebrush Inn. I love MMM, his cowboy stuff is okay but I prefer his earlier stuff. While singing "Wildfire" this gal who was seated near us was just bawling her eyes out! It obviously had SOME kind of meaning in her life! "Carolina In The Pines" is my all time favorite song of his, love that Banjo!

  18. Being a horse lover myself I love that song as well. I rode my first horse alongside a river all the time, but it was the Los Angeles River in its cement channel, so it wasn't as much fun as this. But being a city girl, it was a dream come true even if the location was less than to be desired. I would have been in heaven to ride in a place as lovely as this! - Margy

  19. Hey Shelley!

That was a great photo! Good thing you able to get it. Sometimes, it's all a matter of being in the right place at the right time with a camera.

I had completely forgotten that song, but now have it playing in my head since visiting your post.

    Hope all is well!

  22. From my continuing visits to this blog over the last few years, I have come to realize that when you say,"Greg, I want this or that", you end up receiving it. Can't wait to see pictures of you and "Wildfire" your horse:). It is a perfect combination...riding horse in the water and with the song in the background. Good luck!

  23. I loved that song too. I also married a man with the last name of Murphey...same spelling in fact :-)
That photo is perfect for that song. I wonder how many horses have been named Wildfire since that song first came out :-)
