Off to the Log Cabin!

I am off to the log cabin for a long weekend! Looking forward to seeing the first signs of fall.

Have a nice and safe labor day weekend! I will leave you with this quote:

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings.
Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees.
The winds will blow their own freshness into you...
while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.

We don't need a t.v. at the log cabin....

I am slowly putting together our little family room at the log cabin. When we were first looking at the log home floor plans, I always envisioned a cozy seating area. The basement would become the recreation / entertaining room. And one thing we have come to realized as we've sat in this family room, looking out at the lake, trees and birds - we don't need a t.v. in this room. The conversation is good enough and the view is more than enough adequate entertainment. Last weekend I witnessed a juvenile eagle splash his claws into the lake to grasp a fish. There would've been no program on t.v. at that moment that was better than seeing nature at its best.
But less you think I'm totally against a t.v. being at the cabin - I am letting my hubby put one in the basement so he doesn't miss his Detroit Lion's football games!

Hayrides at the Log Cabin!

We're landscaping at the log cabin! And I'm offering free hayrides!

Come on down my street.....

I have some hay! (Well really the hay is to protect the grass seed that was just planted on our land.)

I have a tractor! (Not my tractor, I don't know how to drive it, but who cares!)

Now I just need some pumpkins and scarecrows!

Finishing the Log Cabin Loft

We had the log cabin loft carpeted and we are another step ahead in finishing our log home. It's hard to tell from the photos below but I picked out a color darker than cinnamon toast - more beige w/ brownish flecks. I probably should have gone darker. One of my blog readers had pointed out if you go too light - then the carpet looks pink against the wood walls.

Now I have to buy some "stuff" to put in the loft. I'm having visions of a comfy seating & reading area, a rustic desk and much more. Black Forest Decor has great rustic furnishings and accents for the log home. Greg is pretending not to hear me right now when I show him the catalog and ask "what do you think about this honey?" It's only a matter of time and oh yeah, how about that Bernese Mountain dog?

Log Cabin Projects

Fall is coming and then you know what is next! We've got to get a cracking on our log cabin projects! The joke in Michigan is that they only have two seasons - winter and construction. (Michiganders will find that joke funny.)

After it rained furiously in Gaylord, the rain frog gave us the okay to do our outdoor projects.

The lot was graded and top soil was put down to prep for the grass seed. (This will be an upcoming post.)

Greg built this bird feeder tray which I do not find attractive but our bird friends do.

Greg is trying to complete the caulking on our tongue and groove ends. I think our next log home will be a swedish cope style so we do not have to caulk for the rest of our log home owner lives!

Finally, we got to enjoy the sunset after a hard day's work.

Hanging the deer head in the log cabin

Okay, the delays are over. I had to give in after saying "let me think about it" twenty times in answer to Greg's question "can I hang my deer head here?" I have to admit, seeing how proud he was to hang this in our log cabin and the care he took to position it over the dining area - made me smile. But now as I'm eating dinner...I know that deer is watching me.....!
