Out and about the log cabin

One of Greg's best friends and his family came to visit us at the cabin this past weekend. With their 4 kids and my stepson - they out-numbered the adults. I won't even tell you about the volume level......

Greg and his buddy went out onto the lake to check the ice fishing conditions. Later on they caught a nice pike!

Of course we had to take everyone to see the elk herd in Gaylord, Michigan. The city maintains an elk herd of over 70 elk on about 104 acres. It's amazing to get so close to these beautiful animals. Some weigh over 800 pounds!

Here's our friend's children posing in front of the elk park.

And of course Scout was beside herself - so many children to love and lick! I think it was the only time she left my side for more than 5 minutes!

*We're expecting 12 inches of snow tonight in lower Michigan - they are saying it will be blizzard conditions and that it will be "thundering" tonight. Should be an interesting drive to work tomorrow! To my mid-west friends - stay warm and safe!

A little fall decorating and more elk

I've started to do a little fall decorating at the log cabin. I have to hit up Garden Ridge, Kohls and the local Farmers Market for more supplies.

I put a few pumpkins on top of the kitchen cupboards to keep all my birds company.

I had promised you some photos of Greg feeding the elk. Look how excited these ladies are!

I think they were developing a crush on him - I told them to back off! (They kept following him along the fence line even when he didn't have food...)

Besides, their boyfriend looked a little tough if you ask me....

Elk Viewing - Part I

Greg and I went Elk Viewing this weekend. Not too far from our cabin is Gaylord's Elk Park. It is 108 acres and has approximately 70 elk along with various type of deer and even a ram. We had tried going to the Pigeon River Forest to view them in the wild - but never have any luck. So of course I have to head to the park to cherry pick some photos! :-)

Check out the rack on this bad boy!

He did a loud bugle for us and it was thrilling to hear! If you want to hear what it sounds like, check this link out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYzWmKlZtrU

Here a friend joins him asking him what is he making all that racket about. (It was over a female of course!)

I have a couple more photos to share - one of Greg feeding them that was very cute. (It was through the fence - don't worry! I didn't let him climb in there. Though I thought about it....ha,ha!)
