It was in the 20's and very sunny at the cabin this weekend. We went on a couple winter hikes and dreamed about never coming home. A lot of you know how much I love winter and wanted to share with you some of nature's handiwork.
I don't know what this plant is, but I liked how the bright red contrasted against the snow.
Look at the snow crystals on this bush glistening in the sun.
Evergreen trees are always one of my favorites.
And here's Scout eating some of nature's handiwork. She wants to let you know that winter is very tasty!

I've missed you and I'm glad you are ok and just enjoying time at the cabin! Pretty photos and that Scout is cute eating the snow! We are expecting snow and sleet tonight!
We got our first snow since Thanksgiving (US style) last night. We may get a bit more later in the week, but most of it has melted away already. I got my Mom a bird feeder for her condo balcony porch and this morning her faithful Oregon Junco came by leaving tracks in the snow while he was getting his morning fix of seeds. Junco's are usually voracious eaters, but this little guy must be keeping his stash a secret. - Margy

You had warmer weather than we've had! However, you have much more snow. You've gotten some beautiful pictures of winter scenes. I really like the picture of Scout eating the snow.

Nice pictures Shelley! I love the one with he red. I love snow pictures with a little red in it, it really makes the red stand out.

Beautiful winter photos Shelly! I love snow too-don't mind winter at all. You have to embrace it when you live in the North country and it sure sounds like you do! Scout has grown into a beautiful dog! I sure can relate to your love and enjoyment of her. I think the red plant is called "Sumac"-it's considered a weed tree, but it's beautiful in the Fall with its bright red leaves and always such a lovely red beauty against the white snow in the Winter. Is that not sumac? Here's your fact for the day: you can use sumac "bobs" (the red flower heads) to start up your smoker for beekeeping! :)

It is always good to have you post again. You are missed when you are not here although I totally understand. Your winter photography is as beautiful as ever! Since I like the winter season also, I am especially fond of these pictures. One of my favorites is the one of the evergreen tree.

Good to see some of your photos once more. You really need to try to post more often. (And so we don't woory about you so much.)
That red one is a sumac...probably a staghorn sumac. And the birds love those red clusters. I've had two or three different woodpeckers come to the small cluster I've got along the driveway for the vitamin C rich berries that cluster contains.
Definitely looks like a winter wonderland to me!

Beautiful photos!! What a peaceful cabin you have....looks so cozy, and sounds like you are getting a lot of enjoyment out of it this winter. I've never snow shoe'd but I'd love to try.
I grew up with seasons in VA, MD and NC, but have been in South Florida for over 17 years now...my 3 girls have never seen snow!! Hoping to find some for them next year. ;)
