Quote of the Day

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

Henry David Thoreau, Walden (1854)

I've never read much Thoreau, but obviously I've been missing something pretty special, because that quote really hits home. Thanks for sharing it!

Possibly the best quote to come out of "Walden". Don't agree with a lot of his political statements, but Thoreau's take on living in the woods was excellent.

Jennifer - I just started reading thoreau and like his nature quotes for the most part.

Joated - I agree w/ you - I'm most interested in his connection w/ nature and living in the woods.
