What's a Log Cabin without a deer head?

My husband's 8 point buck that he shot (I'm not allowed to say killed) 8 years ago has finally found a home. What's a log cabin without a deer head? Log homes seem to typically have moose, deer, elk, etc. all mounted like a trophy above the fireplace. I'm a little conflicted because one - I'm a big animal lover - so once my friends see this deer I'm sure they'll be shaking their heads wondering how I fell in love with a deer hunter. (It was easy - he was handsome and agreed to go skiing and birdwatching with me!) Second - I don't have a fireplace....yet. The hubby keeps suggesting various places in the log cabin (under our 2nd story loft windows, in the dining area, etc.) and I keep stalling. I'm not sure yet...but eventually I'll find a place for him. Now I just have to make sure that he doesn't add to the collection....

Yup. We've got one too. You're right, it wouldn't be home without it.

I promised my wife I wouldn't mount anything with less than 10 points. Sigh. I've got the horns from two 8s, several 7s, two 6s, two 4s and half a dozen spikes. But there's nothing mounted for the walls of the Aerie.

Yet.

Is that the deer tag still attached to the antlers?

I grew up looking at two mounted deer heads. My dad shot "a trophy" deer one year and my mom said any other ones had to be bigger in order to mount any more and sure enough the next year he shot a bigger one. The first one I think is an eight point and the antlers are symmetrical from the side view. It is really cool to see.

Jennifer - "heavy sigh" - just can't get away from them! :-)

Joated - I laughed at your post. My husband just said yesterday - how about if I promise that it's nothing less than 8 points!

Christy - yes - the tag is still on it - don't know why - will have to ask the hubby if there's some reason for it...

I just wouldn't feel at home without some critter hanging on the wall. When I was growing up, my dad had deer and elk. Now my DH and daughter have graced my walls with deer, fish and pheasant. If I would lay down the camera, maybe I will some day get a trophy on the wall!

Okay, so you finally got that log home you've been planning for all these years and you MUST have a deer, elk or moose mounted above the fireplace. I think there is a Log Home law that states that...

But if killing (shooting) critters isn't your thing, click on over to eBay and bag one online! A few years ago I actually bought a beautiful 8 pointer for $30.00 and we named him "Lucky". Come to find out he was shot in Pennsylvania in 1954, but he looked like he just stepped out of the woods.

Brandi - you just reminded me of my husband's fish he wants to hang too! Good luck on getting YOUR trophy!

Montana Tom - good to hear from you! It's funny you mention EBAY, the hubby just picked up a stuffed fox with a pheasant in its mouth! And you're right about the log cabin law.....

Yikes! You are right though, it looks nice in the cabin.

You've got to put that up, it's a testament to the beauty of the animal, and the prowness of your outdoorsy husband.
