My "hope chest" for the Log Cabin

See this little pine cone lamp in the picture above? It holds a very special meaning to me and our log cabin. When Greg and I first started thinking about a log cabin 5 years ago, we talked about what it would look like and what we would do once we had it. It was in the early stages of dreaming. We weren't talking cost, mortgage, builders or any practical stuff.

One day we were in a small town shop and I saw this pine cone lamp. I told Greg I liked it and wouldn't it be great for our log cabin. And then I said, well, it will probably be a while before we can build a log cabin so no sense in buying this lamp right now. Greg grabbed it off the shelf and said let's get this honey, we will have a log cabin one day and this will go in it. This was the 1st item for our log home "hope chest" and now it has a permanent home. I bring this story up because a woman in one of my log home groups was talking about how they were years away from building a log cabin but she wanted to buy stuff for it now - I told her she should do it - the dream will come true and the road to get there makes it all worth it!

Hi Shelly:

You're loft design is so close to
what we have been imagining, right
down to the railings!
We are still in the planning stages
on the size and interior layout with what will be functional, could you share the dimensions and sq.ft of the home?

Love the lamp! I agree, with buying it now! Dave & I decided that whatever we replace in our home, has to transition into the cabin when we build! We have decided to replace our waterbed (25+ years old and I am tired of the dismantling process/ordeal). We are going to go with a peeled log, king-sized, 4 poster one. If our dream of a cabin isn't able to come true for whatever reason, we're still surrounded by things we enjoy!

Terri - can't wait to see the stuff you buy!!

Penny - thank you - me too!

Bruce K - Our log home is close to 1,350 SF. The loft ended up being a little extended as i shifted the room sizes on a stock plan below. I'll look for my rev. plans and check the exact dimensions for you.

Michele - thanks! I love to dream...

Connie - I believe your dream will come true - it sounds like you & your husband have a good plan! And that bed sounds wonderful!

I think buying things for the cabin before it's built is an excellent way to start assuming ownership. also a good selling tool for you to use Shelley.

Cliff Note: This comes from many years of reading and listening to Zig Ziglar.

Very cool! Hubby kept his promise. The first thing that I bought was a Loon Lake comforter set at overstock.com. They don't have them anymore. Of course I also bought and love the Northern Nights sheet sets at QVC...LOL

I know you wrote this post forever ago, but I just found your blog through The Log Home Neighborhood (loghomeu.com), and I've been enjoying reading through all your old posts!

This is fabulous story and I'm so glad you shared it. So encouraging. It's similar to writing down your goals - you have to start taking steps, no matter how small or insignificant they seam - in order to make your dreams a reality!!
