Is it Friday yet?

I am counting the hours till we leave for our log cabin tomorrow! This weekend, Gaylord is having an Oktoberfest and we have invited some friends to come up. I'm hoping the weather holds up as I'd like to do a little kayaking.

Here's Greg kayaking. His kayak is different from mine in the fact that it is set up for a fisherman with all these gadgets. We both love to fly fish.

Making friends on the kayak

It's time for me to take you on another kayak ride. The sun is out, a little warm at 80 degrees but we'll feel cooler once we're out on the lake. Are you ready?

Let's paddle at a leisurely pace and see what we can find.

Here is one of the many water lilies that float on our lake.

Look up ahead! Do you see something in that tall birch tree? Let's get a little closer.

Well it's Harry the Blue Heron! He thinks we can't see him and I'm glad. It allows us enough time to admire his beauty and snap a few shots.

Whoops - looks like he has an itch! We'll just give him some privacy and keep paddling.

Look - there's a family of ducks up ahead. Let's paddle over there.

Well aren't they a fine looking family! They're quacking now, so I'm going to leave them be. Now I hear something else across the lake....

Scout is barking at us from the deck of the log cabin. We better head back and give her a biscuit. Hope you enjoyed today's kayak ride. Scout said next time she would like to ride in the kayak with one of you. Any takers?

Things I never tire of at the log cabin...

Some of the things I never tire of at the log cabin....

Kayaking on a calm lake...

Seeing my favorite Loons and hearing their haunting calls....

Humilating my animals by putting them in a ridiculous dress and entering them into a doggy parade......but that's another story....

Nature's Beauty from a kayak

Greg and I spent the morning of 4th of July on our kayaks. It was such a memorable day - the weather was breezy and in the 70's, the lake a calm sheet of glass. The only sounds were the birds singing, the squirrels chattering, the chipmunks rustling in the woods and the soft sounds of our kayak paddles lapping the water.

I love to wonder what's lurking beneath the lily pads.

A sleepy turtle sunning himself on a fallen log in the lake.

2 baby racoons taking a little swim from shore.

Fresh air, blue skies dotted with fluffy white clouds and spending the day with my husband - I can't think of anything better than this.

Morning Kayak Ride

It was 58 degrees this morning at the log cabin. The lake is calm. The sky is partly sunny. It's 7:30 a.m. - time to wake Greg up to go kayaking. Why don't you join us too....

We're in the kayak paddling thru water that's like glass. Can you see Greg up ahead in the distance?

Let's catch up with him. He is motioning that he sees something in the water.

Why hello Mr. Bufflehead duck. Nice of you to join us this morning. You sure are handsome!

Let's keep paddling across the lake. Look at the shorline, the trees are starting to get back their leaves. Chickadees and Red Winged Blackbirds can be heard serenading us as we pass thru.

The wind is starting to pick up on the lake so let's head back to the cabin. I'll make some hazelnut coffee, we'll grab a couple chairs and sit out on the deck. And we'll talk about what a wonderful kayak trip we had...
