What's happening at the log cabin!

When Greg drove up last night (he had to go back downstate for work for a few days), the temperature on his dashboard read -18 degrees! Isn't that crazy? Kind of difficult to go skiing and snowshoeing in this weather. We are hoping it gets into the positive digits so we can get outside more. Right now it is -4. So we are running errands - need to pick up some weather stripping to make the cabin doors more snug, grocery shopping (I'm in a baking & cooking mood) and looking for some nature photography opportunities.

Below is a photo I took on the way back from the store last night. This is the City of Waters small little downtown - I think it is so quaint!

Check out those snow drifts by our log cabin!

Black squirrel trying to stay warm!

See those little squares out on that frozen lake? Those are some die hard ice fisherman! I dedicate this to Denise & Bill at Vintage Log Cabin - they like to ice fish.

Lots of birdy action at our feeders. The Hairy Woodpecker is on the left and the Downy Woodpecker on the right.

Tufted Titmouse giving me the "cold" shoulder!

Marvin is sleepy on cold days like this. Gosh - do you think I feed him too much?!

I know you want to scratch his cheeks! Here, I'll do it. Good kitty!

I love all your photos. Make me wish we had some of you all snow!

Thanks for the pictures. We rarely get snow and when we do, we have to enjoy it fast because it is usually all gone within 24 hours.

Shelley,

I hope you realize that I'm living vicariously through you! Your pictures look like something out of National Geographic! Just beautiful, I tell ya! Thank you so much for sharing your pics with us! By the way, I think my dachshund could give your cat a run for it's money in the "weight" department...we call her Fatty Maddie...wonder why???

Shelley ~~ Beautiful winter pictures, I think all your pics would make great cards. Let me know if you find any place that will make them up cheap.
I have loads of pictures that I would like to make into cards. I tried to do them on my printer and it just eats up the ink..and to bring them anywhere cost lots.
Keep Warm ~~ Hugs Connie xox

I think Marvin has the best idea of what to do when the temperature is that low! Your pictures were beautiful, however.

Oh Shelley---And to think, I was complaining about it being 10 degrees here this morning and only 17 right now. That's cold for US--but nothing like northern Michigan. Brrrrrr.

Glad you are all snug and warm in the log cabin. Looks like Marvin has a hard time relaxing... Too Cute!!!
Hugs,
Betsy

I really hate when it is so cold it hurts to be outside! It is warm here, like 45 today!! weird weather. Warmest January I remember since moving here 10 years ago.
stay warm, Marvin has the right idea!!

Middy said to tell Marvin that he's got the right idea. I got home from work today at barely 7° and she was sleeping soundly on my bed. Cat's are very smart! Nice wildlife shots today,...

Shelley said...

MIchele - please send some of your warm weather! :)

Cedar - Marvin says to say hello to Middy and that he'll be sleeping on the bed next!

You could take pictures all day and I for one, would be thrilled to look at them. Your wintery log cabin world is so much fun for me to step into. Thank you for sharing pictures of the cabin, the snow and nature at it's finest.

We're having (for Texas) a cold fornt blow through. After -24 in West Yellowstone all I can think of when I see my fellow Texans is,
"What A Bunch Of Babies!"

Anyway, there is White Chicken Chil with Cheesy Garlic Bread for dinner and I'm starting a fire in a couple of minutes. I'm going to bake up some of those fabulous Ghiradelli triple fudge brownies to have later! Yummy!

I posted all about our dog sled adventure, hope you can stop by. I'll save you a brownie! Tee Hee!

I had fun catching up on the cabin life. I forgot about that pine cone bird feeder. It would be a perfect project for me and the granddaughters.

those ice fisherman may have frozen to the lake and you may not see them guys until March! We are at about 40 below with the wind chill,,,isnt this nuts? Walking outside in this actually hurts after a few minutes.

Crank up that fireplace!!
Marvin is so cute, he's probably wondering if he gets a nibble of your baked goodies.

It's single digits here, and will be for a couple days I guess.
We've been hanging out in the loft; it's warmer up there.

Oh Marvin is so sweet! All of your pictures are beautiful. Snuggle up, batten down the hatches, and stay warm.

Judy - thanks so much! I hope to photograph sunnier days ahead!

Connie -those brownies sound delicious!!

Grammy - my stepson loved putting them together!

Dawnie - come to think of it, I haven't seen anyone walk out of there - ha,ha!

Jen - good idea about the loft! We just put a t.v. up there so we should head up there tonite too!

Charli - I'll have a warm kitty purring on my lap today!

-18 that is COLD! I hope I never see that here! I don't mind the cold as long as the sun is out and there is no wind. The wind is what really bothers me!
Lovely pictures!

We're supposed to get down to -23 degrees tonight and then it's supposed to warm a little. It's definitely too cold for skiing or anything else outdoors! I love the black squirrel.

Gorgeous photos! I love nature photography! I love the picture of the snowy town! Keep those photos coming! I love 'em!

Please have Marvin jump in the snow for Hootie & Baby. Now the only thing they are tracking into the house & car is dried up grass* from the dog park. ugh.I miss wiping them down after they romp in the snow & cleaning up the wet floors:>( Oh well. At least I have something to look forward to.

Oh, I hope it warms up for you so you can enjoy some outside activities. But you look like you can stay snug as a bug in your wonderful little cabin.

Great pictures.

Suppose to be zero at our house tonight. But Jimmy hid the thermometer in the fall, won't know for sure. I was surprised you aren't that far off from us right now. We still don't have snow.

As I'm getting ready to clear some space on our rural land for a cabin, tiny house, or *something*, I was excited to stumble upon your blog via Cedar at Adirondack View. Loved the few posts I've read already, and I"m headed back to read more! I added myself to your follow list so I can keep up.

Brrrr! We're supposed to get close to 30-degrees this weekend! I can't believe it - a heat wave! I wore 4 layers of shirts today (I spend most of my day in a large, mostly unheated warehouse). I don't know if we got above 10. I can see how this cold weather could put one in a baking/cooking mood! Thanks for scratching Marvin's cheek for us - how did you know?

Shelley said...

Denise - I agree w/ you - the wind makes it a little unbearable!

JyLync - I keep hoping this cold front will end soon!

Tammy - thank you so much!

Cassie - Marvin loves to venture onto the deck for about 5 minutes and then he's crying to come in! My poor cold baby!

Dawn - I can't wait to see my heating bill next month! lol!

Ruthie - it is fun to be snug in the cabin!

Leedra - you reminded me - we need to buy a weather thermometer too.

City Mouse - welcome - so glad you stopped by! I'll be over to see you too!

Tami - fleece blankets are the best!

Catherine - We are hoping it gets in the positive numbers soon!

Sandy - thanks!

Heather - who can resist a fat kitty's cheeks? lol!

Hi Shelley:
I was wondering about your log cabin, is there insulation between the logs to keep the cabin warmer?
Those temps are what I would think Alaska would be -17 wow that is cold.
I love the pictures, especially the one of you driving home from the store, the little town is cute.
