Birds at the Log Cabin

Some of you already know that I'm a birdwatching enthusiast (okay - I'll say it - I'm a bird nerd!) Winters at the log cabin bring some of the best birding opportunities. Last year I had an abundance of Pine Siskins and Common Redpolls that passed through and ate out of my hands. (Can you imagine what my neighbors think when I'm outside in my sheep pjs, holding out my hand and talking to the little birdies?) Anyways, I've notice the bird activity has increased at my feeders. Come meet some of my friends!

Can you see the Downy Woodpecker storing his food supply?

Here's the Tufted Titmouse. He likes to hang with the Black-capped Chickadees. His bird call sounds like a strangled duck in my opinion - but I still like him!

Here's the Dark-eyed Junco - a sure sign winter is on its way! (I know the only people happy about this is me and Betsy!)

Okay, Scout is not a bird, but I just have to show you how big she is getting. I love this dog so much. She is a big cuddler and still crawls onto my lap whenever she can. Marvin kitty still gets jealous but they are playing well together - i.e. Scout goes to give Marvin a kiss and then Marvin slaps her 10 times in a row.

Great bird pictures. I'm glad Betsy isn't the only one looking forward to winter. I'm also glad Scout and Marvin are getting along (sort of!).

Very pretty bird pictures Shelley but my favorite is you and Scout. She is getting so big! I know what you are talking about with Marvin and the 10 slaps in a row - kinda looks like boxing, doesn't it?? This was a joyful way to start my day. Thanks!

The birds are so cute Shelley and I could cuddle with Scout in a heartbeat. I bet she will still try to be a lap dog when she is full grown.
Feeding birds in your PJ'S? that sounds perfectly fine to me!

I know what you mean about loving your dog----I cant get enough of mine. Mine has been battling some rare and strange diseases for the last 2+ years and I'm grateful for every day we have...

I love your bird photos...I'm not ready for winter but we dont have a choice do we?

I'm so glad you're a "bird nerd", otherwise, I might not ever get to see all of your amazing pictures! Wow...Scout is getting BIG! Aren't you amazed at how much you love her? :)

Scout is growing beautifully and is lucky to have such a good home and happy life. Your little birds are truly gorgeous. I loved seeing those pictures, so different from the birds I am used to here in England. Thank you.

Love the pictures. Isn't it funny how cat's slap. Hope he is declawed, though they seem to do it without hurting.
I really know nothing about birds...but I do love to see them. We don't get the pretty ones that much. Robins (o:

Shelley,
those pictures are adorable. You are beautiful and so is Scout....
We haven't seen any Junco's yet here..plenty of chickadees and still chipping sparrows and a few finches.
As always, we have a ton of Bluejays here and a few doves too.
BTW, did you ever track down that package you sent and that didn't arrive here? I feel so bad about you sending me it and me not getting it!

Beautiful bird photos. Your pictures are always so pretty. I loved the fall leaves at the cabin from one of the last posts too. I have a few kids that would like to rake them up, but then they'd just want to jump in them afterward. Thanks for sharing.
Blessings,
Marcia

It is time the talented photographer of this blog include a photo of herself and one of her best friends. What a great picture along with all of the other ones. You actually make bird watching something I think I could get into. Scout just keeps on growing, and I love what you shared about her and Marvin. A love/hate relationship.

The other day I went up on the hill behind our cabin and just sat quietly on the ground to listen to the quiet. Of course, the first bold sound I heard was the raven plying the skies to find something to eat or some mischief to get into. Then some smaller birds started moving into the trees over my head. I didn't have a camera and didn't recognize them in any of my guide books. But they had the most cheerful little call. - Margy

Yes, Scout is growing fast. How great to have such a good friend!

Wow Shelley, you've got Juncos already? I'm jealous! We probably won't see any for another month or so. Scout is getting to be such a big girl! I hope she and Marvin will get along eventually. Take care!
