I've had a spammer too! Such a pain!

I am not much of a reader, but when I was in junior high I had to do a book report and didn't know what to read. My grandmother handed me "A Lantern in Her Hand." It was awesome.

After I finished the book and returned it to her, she told me to keep and read it again when I got married, then when I had children. And I did! So much more comes out of the book each time I read it.

I have not read it since becoming a grandmother! I better get it out and see how it touches me now!

Lovely bag!
Brandi

PS! It was the best grade I ever received on a book report!!

What a gorgeous bag! I absolutely LOVE it, Shelley! Now, let's see. I would have to say that my favorite book is "Tuesdays With Morrie" because it teaches the power of LOVE. It inspires me every time I pick it up and I've read it 4 or 5 times to date.

Love the bag - so pretty! Favorite book - Beach Music, Pat Conroy. Nobody uses words like Pat - he paints a picture of vowels and consonants so beautifully. Southern life is his forte and he shines his love of the coastal south all over his works.

Spammers suck I've a few. Anyway onto My favorite book of all time. This was one of the first lengthy books I ever read. I was in grade school and a teacher handed me a book called "Don't Hurt Laurie" by Willo Davis Roberts. It's about a young girl who gets abused by her mom because she looks like her dad. The only time she is safe is with her grandparents and when her stepdad is home. She finally finds the courage to get away and she goes to her grandparents and they help her. I reread the book as an adult and I still enjoyed it but with a differnce. I figured out I related myself to some similarities between my mom and I. I finally got the courage to stand up to my mom and realized I am a survivor like Laurie in the book.

Beautiful bag! What is with these spammers? I just don't get it.

I LOVE to read. I read every night. I enjoy reading series, like The Mitford Series. About a Epicapal priest, living in a small town in NC. After reading several of the series, you feel almost like you are living in that small town and all of the residents are your friends and neighbors. I was actually sad when the series ended.
Hugs,
Penny

Hi Shelly! Hope you are staying warm up north! I have lots of favorite books, but one of my favorites that left a lasting impression on me was Snowflower and the Secret Fan written by Lisa See. We read it for our book club probably three years ago. It just stays with me. It is about the friendship between two young girls in China as they become women with families and grow old. I love this book :)

Thanks for the chance to win your lovely bag!

Hi Shelley!
Great contest, beautiful bag!
My favorite book of 2009 was "The Help" by Katheryn Stockett. This was a great book! Very well written especially for a first time author. It was about black women who worked as maids in the 60's (about civil rights).

YOU HAVE DISA TOO?
She is driving me flippin nuts!

Karen said...

Sorry - I was just so surprised to hear you had her bugging you I answered before I even read the rest of your post! HA!
Ok, I'm in - will Scout autograph it for me? :)
One of my favorite books -
Black Hills by Nora Roberts. I read it last summer while we were visiting the Black Hills. It was great - I couldn't put it down. She always keeps you in suspense and has a wonderful love story to go along with it. Sorry - I'm corney. I like easy reading - the Oprah bookclub books are just so depressing and heavy - they aren't fun. (sorry - just my opinion) I like to ENJOY what I am reading. I have enough of my own problems, I don't need anyone else's. LOL.
OK, now you know my secret. I like the good old-fashioned love story books.
Oh wait! I did love "the Shack - even if it was so hard to read at first. I kept having to put it down and go back. Ugh! But it turned out to be a WONDERFUL wonderful book.
yay!
Hugs! How is the snow where you are?

I love that tote! My favorite book since I first read it in elementary school is "Little House On the Prairie". Laura Ingalls Wilder was a master of describing details. The chapters that tell about the family building a log cabin give clear directions on how to build a log cabin.

For now the book is( A Redbird Christmas.) By Fannie Flagg. It was a funny and sweet book, I will read it again in a few years.

Shelley, that tote bag is lovely. There are many books that I love. One that first springs to mind is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. I love the characters and the suspense in the story.

Hello, I just finished the funniest book....DOG ON IT by Spencer Quinn. I picked it up at the library thinking I would give it a try and so glad I did. It is about Chet the Jet (dog) who is the wise and lovable narrator of the book. It is told in the words of Jet...so funny...just like my MollieDog talking....you can just hear him thinking and saying things your own dog would say if they could...I highly recommend it...

Oh goodness, love that bag and the quote! I can always use a new tote!
My favorite book...hmm......so hard, there are so many over the years! I don't even have just one favorite. But one I liked recently was the young adult novel, "Shiver." By Maggie Stiefvater. It's about wolves, and wolf-people, kinda! ;)

Absolutely beautiful bag, Shelley.

Let's see, favorite book - hmmm, that's a tough one. Well, right now I'm reading a really interesting one by Phillip Keller "A Shepherd Looks at the 23rd Psalm". I've always loved the 23rd Psalm and the author points out so much to help me understand it. It's fascinating stuff.

And to Disa - May your only son be goalie for a nudist hockey team!

I'm having trouble with a spammer as well. Had to turn on comment moderation. Hate to do that!

Ok, seems like I am drifting towards the diet section of the bookshelves theses days. Recently read the Master your Metabolism book by the "Biggest Loser" trainer Jillian Michaels. Wish I could get the body I had 20 years ago back. *sigh* I'm working on it! LOL

My favorite book of my whole lifetime is "Anne of Green Gables".... and the rest of the series. somehow it touched me in a way that has lasted all my life.

Constance said...

I thought it was interesting to read "Rose Haven" choosing a Laveryle Spencer book. I haven't read her in YEARS but her first book I ever read was "Morning Glory" and it really touched me! I actually own the book and that says somethig since I hardly read romance.

Also, Sandy @ AWFarm choice in Phillip Keller also sruck a familiar chord since I read that book over 20 years ago. I remember the insight in gave was profound!

Now for my own choice. Difficult task since I am an avid reader of biographies and autobiographies!

Tom Brokaw's "The Greatest Generation" is a book I have read numerous times! It's a collection of memories written by famous (President George HW Bush, Julia Child, Andy Rooney etc.)and non-famous people affected by WW2 whether as soldiers, wives on the home front, activists etc. Did you know that Julia Child was in the French Resistance?

One of the most touching stories is of a woman widowed while she was pregnant with their only child, a son. When she eventually remarried her new husband was adamant about NOT adopting the boy. The reason why was because he had so much respect and awe for the boy's father that he didn't want to dishonor his memory by taking the man's name away. He said it would be an honor and a "sacred duty" (my words) to raise this man's little boy!

Hollywood can't make up stuff better than this!

Shelley,
I have to share my favorite books - actually a series written by Helen Hoover and illustrated by her husband, Adrian. In the '40s they left their careers and moved to the edge of a lake where they lived for almost the rest of their lives. These books show their determination to live alone together, to sift out what is not needed and to add what "is"... to become friends with not only their few neighbors but the animals with whom they shared their space. You fall in love with the deer, the mice, the unconventional, drop-in friends - you worry about the drip in the cabin, the two homes they traveled between - actually less than an hours walk apart... I've never been so fascinated and so purchased all the books and mourned the last page read. They survived on wit, love and occasional written articles and drawings for magazines and cards. I can't recommend these books enough!
AND since I don't have a blog as yet, I hopefully will soon, I'll be content to share my favorite books and buy "How Was Your Day" cards for friends - LOL!

Hey Shelley, I just read the most heart warming book last night to the kids. It's called Grandfathers Chirstmas Tree by Keith Strand. It is about a couple that move by wagon out to Colorado in the 1800's. They build their log cabin in a valley next to some huge blue spruce trees and the first Christmas they are there a pair of geese live under the tree. It is so heartwarming and the pictures are amazing. You would love them and I know that Scout would love for you to read the book to her. Thanks!

Hard to name just one.
Tuesdays with Morrie is one I really loved and also Catcher in the Rye.

Catcher in the Rye deals with an adolescent boy facing growing up and all the trials he endures. It has a lot of humor and heart.
And of course, Tuesdays with Morrie deals with a young man who goes to get wisdom from one of his mentors (one of his old professors) who is dying.
Both of them are funny yet tear jerking.
How nice of you to have a giveaway!!

I can't think of anyone that would not want to win this beautiful bag of yours. Another special gift from kind and generous you.

As for my favorite book, there are too many. I like reading cookbooks, decorator books and history books. I really like Francine Rivers books, although my time schedule does not allow me to read novels right now. Reading is one of my most loved pasttimes.

Hope you are staying warm. It is bitter cold here in my part of the world.

I think PatseyAnne should win! Her choice has prompted me to research the Hoover's and now they are on my wish list! From what little I have seen so far, Helen Hoover's writings seem to be the embodiment of your cabin experience! Good Luch PatseyAnne!

I have so many favorite books. I love all of Debbie Macomber books. One book I read over and over (it's old) is "Not without my daughter" by Betty Mahmoody. It's a story of a woman who went to Iran with her hubby and daughter for a visit with his family and he wouldn't let her leave. She had to flee the country with her daughter during the night.

I would enjoy meeting your friend who is moving to my town. If you think that is okay, would you please email me her name and new address, and when she is moving. Do this ONLY if you feel comfortable sharing that info. I think it would be so difficult to move into a new part of the country.
