A common sight
This is a common sight we see when we drive I-75 north to our cabin. If it's early in the morning or dusk, the deer are plentiful on the side of the road. You have to be careful of them crossing the road which reminds me of a funny story....
Our family had just finished eating at a polish restaurant up north. My mom took home a big platter of sauerkraut. All of us kids piled into the van and continued heading up the interstate to our cabin. Lo and behold a deer crosses the road and my dad decides to swerve to miss it. The van rolls on its side and my mom's sauerkraut has splattered all of us. We were okay but as we stepped out of the van, we had sauerkraut in our hair, clothes, everywhere. Gawkers were pointing and laughing at us. Till this day, I will never eat sauerkraut!

HA HA.... Bet you even made the deer smell you and RUN the OPPOSITE direction!!!!!
Glad you were not hurt---but I'll bet that was a funny sight to see (and smell). I love sauerkraut--but haven't had it in a LONG time. We used to have sauerkraut and wieners.... YUM!!!
Hugs,
Betsy
Too funny Shelley!
I don't eat sauerkraut either,but because I don't like it. ha
LOL....funny story! I love sauerkraut...
Hugs,
Penny
I think you've got a wonderful reason for not eating sauerkraut. Just be careful of those deer long the road.
Great picture! We see them often here too. I wish they'd stay away from the road. We've had some close calls with them.
Your sauerkraut story is funny! I never cared for sauerkraut anyway, but that would make me hate it even more! HA! :)
Oh my goodness
glad everyone was ok
aside from being sour...smelling (o:
Just last week a big goose stepped out on the road and
even though it could have been hit and a bunch of cars wrecked....it was avoided.
Hubby told me that if that ever happens I just have to hit it and not swerve or totally slam on the breaks....I wonder if I could.
OH NO! A scary story - but it's great you can laugh at it now. I don't think I've ever even tried sauerkraut - so - NO LOSS to me
But hitting a deer scares the heck out of me. And I get so sad when I'm on my way to work or somewhere and there is one laying by the side of the road. One got hit in the early afternoon a few weeks go - it was so sad. Especially in spring when they could be a mama. :(
Hmmm . . . I wonder if I should try some sauerkraut . . . just once?
HAGE! karen
hehe :)
btw-I've missed ya!
Oh my gosh...that is quite the memory Shelley!!!
The deer are so pretty...do you think they would eat sauerkraut?
I thought sauerkraut was German.
cute story.
Whew...glad you didn't get hurt! I bet you wreaked for weeks on end from that sauerkraut! Yuck! I love seeing deer...they're so peaceful and serene looking!
The deer almost look fake standing there. I have to admit that I did giggle when you told your story but so glad no one was hurt. I have never even tried saurkraut... the smell was enough to make me gag! lol
*hugs*
Take Care,
Debbie
I love to see deer but they give me the willies close to the road like that! I love sauerkraut but I probably wouldn't touch again either after that!
Love this story Shelly! I can only imagine but I'm sitting her giggling :>)
This would be a good story to enter in the Reader's Digest story section. I cannot imagine what that would have been like and the aroma that would have been there. Great story! I know I will always think of you now, whenever I see deer by the side of the road.
I like to spot deer as we drive along but it scares me to think they could jump out at you.I don't like sauerkraut mother made it one time and it smell bad.
Patsy
Great story and I'm glad your dad was able to miss the deer. I can just visualize how that must have looked and smelled. :>)
I tried to make sauerkraut not too long ago. It sure didn't taste like my mom used to make, and my kids didn't like it at all :-) We don't see deer around here, but have seen bears a few times in our local mountains.
Blessings,
Marcia
Ha ha ha Shelley! Fortunately you all were safe! And the deer-I could stare at them for hours... I met a few so close to the road when in Maine, but couldn't snap a picture! It's lovely to see yours.
Monicax.
LOL...I bet the 'gawkers' are still telling this story!! FAB.
