Broken Heart

*Just a note to those who read my bird blog, this is the same post that I have posted there today.

See the 2 beautiful Loon eggs in the nest above? It breaks my heart to know they will never hatch due to the unfortunate (and dare I say it - IDIOTIC) actions of a person who got too close to the nest. On the day I found the nest, I posted signs at the boat launch warning everyone and to please give the Loons their space. According to one resident on our lake, it was the first time in 30 years that the Loons had attempted to nest on our lake.

I found the nest last Sunday, came back to the cabin on Thursday and found no Loon parents. After investigating, I inadvertently found out who the culprit was who got too close (I'm pretty sure, but have to admit other factors go in to Loons abandoning the nest) and was just devastated. I admit, I went inside my cabin and cried. (I know Bird Girl will know how I feel, I still remember when her bluebird babies died.) My heart is completely broken...

That's too bad Shelley. I know how you feel because things like that have happened to me too, not always as a result of people's actions either. Sometimes it's just nature in the raw.

Oh No!!! That is so heart breaking! I would have cried too.
A couple years ago a Killdeer built a nest right in the middle of our barn driveway!. Well... my hubby put flags all around it so no one would drive into it! And he would drive his truck around, in the grass just to avoid the nest. Isn't that sweet, coming from a guy?

Well hopefully the Loons will try again.

Darn it Shelley, that's too bad. Maybe those loon parents will pick another spot on your pretty lake next time.

I am so sorry. I think all of us looked forward to seeing those baby loons. If someone did this on purpose shame on them.

Oh Shelley, I would've cried too. We had little swallows build a nest on our patio a few years back. We so enjoyed watching, but one day in the heat of summer, they all fell to their death. It broke our hearts. How thoughtless of that person.
Blessings,
Marcia

Oh Shelley, I'm so very very sorry... It just brings tears to my eyes. I would have cried and cried also if I were in your shoes.

Are you sure the loons won't come back? What was it?a speed boat? A fisherman? Are you going to report it???? That is just horrible.

I know how much the loons mean to you.
Hugs,
Betsy

Shelley...so sad but sometimes nature is cruel but never as cruel as the thoughtlessness of over zealous humans, so eager to get a 'closer' look, that they do not think.
Maybe they will come back.

How sad - we have loons on our lake but I've never seen a nest. It is like a floating island. - Margy

How sad, Shelley. I am always very careful with nests... it's such a shame people do not pay attention to Nature nowadays.
