Meet my new little friend...

While looking at the big tree in front of our cabin this weekend, I noticed a little head peeking out of one the holes.....

Apparently I'm the proud mama of a baby red squirrel!

I'm a sucker for babies!

It was sweet to see him so gingerly exploring his world outside his safe little nest.

And now I'm sure he's headed in for a nap and to dream about all the peanuts he's going to get off my bird feeders this year.

They are kinda cute. I've got three of them coming to my feeders and it's fun to watch them access tunnels in the snow. Then they pop their heads up--like whack-a-mole--to see if I'm still watching from the deck.

I just love babies! We have a family of squirrels living in one of the sheds outside. Did not surprise me since the old farmer tore out all the trees. (Bad farmer) I bet your going to have hours of enjoyment just watching him!

Aw...he's so cute! We don't have any red ones here, just black ones and gray ones. Great pictures, Shelley! :D

What a cutie he is. It must result from a story I was read as a kid or maybe a Keebler elf commercial, but I always envision a humble little abode with pictures on the wall of a squirrel's nest!!!!!

Hi Shelley, We don't have those 'pretty' squirrels here. Ours are the ole' plain gray ones... They are a nuisance!!!! I'm sure that the red ones are MUCH nicer... ha

Betsy

All babies are cute.
Really, I can't believe he would steal nuts from the birds though!

I was amazed when I moved here that we had no squirrels at all. Chipmunks and rabbits and moles and of course mice but not a single squirrel. They were hanging out 1/4 mile away at the cemetery. Well. word must have gotten out that we put out good chow for the birds. 2 squirrels have made the short trip this winter.

Hi Shelly, I'm sorry it has taken me so long to get back with you. My brother just sold his house in Petosky so I don't know when I will be back up there but when I do I would love to see you and scout. In the mean time I wanted to wish you the best of luck with school. You are a great gal and I have really enjoyed knowing you through FB.
