Out and about the log cabin

One of Greg's best friends and his family came to visit us at the cabin this past weekend. With their 4 kids and my stepson - they out-numbered the adults. I won't even tell you about the volume level......

Greg and his buddy went out onto the lake to check the ice fishing conditions. Later on they caught a nice pike!

Of course we had to take everyone to see the elk herd in Gaylord, Michigan. The city maintains an elk herd of over 70 elk on about 104 acres. It's amazing to get so close to these beautiful animals. Some weigh over 800 pounds!

Here's our friend's children posing in front of the elk park.

And of course Scout was beside herself - so many children to love and lick! I think it was the only time she left my side for more than 5 minutes!

*We're expecting 12 inches of snow tonight in lower Michigan - they are saying it will be blizzard conditions and that it will be "thundering" tonight. Should be an interesting drive to work tomorrow! To my mid-west friends - stay warm and safe!

Sounds like you all had a nice time with friends, Shelley... Love seeing the elk.... Wow!!!!!

Hope you stay safe during this horrible storm. We got lucky and have only had rain and wind here.

Prayers for you and others in the path of the storm.
Hugs,

I love the lighting on your cabin in the first photo -- it's absolutely beautiful.
It sounds as if you had a great weekend, and I'm glad Scout enjoyed all the attention I'm sure she got.
It looks as if you got closer to the elk in Gaylord than we got to them in the Smokies.

Great photo of the Elk...and surroundings.

The freezing rain was the "killer" in this storm...on top of the 8" we got by late lastnight - and then more snow on top of that (2" more right now).

I know about the volume on kids...you just learn to be louder, lol. That snow sounds dreadful.....I have been seeing nightmares of snow on blogs today and the news...be safe!

We all got that same massive storm! Did you hear any thunder? It's the weirdest thing hearing thunder in a snowstorm.

Sounds like another fun-filled weekend in your cozy log cabin! I can just imagine Scout all excited and having fun with those kids-Buck is the same way. I think he thinks they're pups. He's always trying to herd them!
Lovin those beautiful Elk! There's an Elk herd not far from St. Mary, PA. They were re-introduced to the area about 10 years ago now. It's big country down there and the herd roams free. In March they walk right through the little towns and stand in folks back yards. It's about a 2 hour drive south of us, we take a drive down in the Spring and Fall to see them-always amazing!
Have a great week Shelly!
With Love from the Cabin,
Claudia

I hope it warms up there soon. I've heard on the news that you've had a hard winter there. It's beautiful though.
I know about that noise level :-) I have it in my house everyday!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Blessings,
Marcia

Hi Shelley
Just found your Log Cabin blog. Love the pictures, particularly of Scout. How old is she. We have a lovely Bernese to, his name is Harvey and is 5 yrs old. Harvey would love it in Michigan.
