Log Cabin Themes

When I look through all these log cabin books and magazines, everyone seems to have a theme for their log cabin. The theme helps determine how you will decorate your place. There's themes such as a southwest flair, a ski lodge (I saw one place that had the criss crossed skis above their main entrance), country, rustic, some combine the rustic with traditional, etc. Others involve their interests or collections. I saw one log cabin that had bird houses and bird prints incorporated throughout their rooms. I'm not sure what my theme is yet - but I did decide what it would be for the bathrooms. I love wildlife so one bathroom will be a moose theme and the other will be a loon theme. Maybe nature and wildlife is my theme?!

Isn't decorating fun? I made a guest bedroom shabby chic and have had so much fun with it. I still have a dresser and chair to paint white. The room is so girly-girl that I sometimes go in there just to watch tv by myself.
I can just envision my dream cabin. A bathroom would have a clawfoot tub, there would be old oriental rugs on the floor in the great room, everything would be rustic/Pottery Barn.

I'm getting more envious everytime I see photos of your beautiful cabin. I love the towel racks in the bathrooms. I vote for wildlife theme. I think you are already on that track.

Since I have just joined along with your cabin blog I'm curious?? Is this cabin going to be your main residence or a vacation home? I've noticed that you said you have a 3 hour drive to get to the cabin.

Thanks for sharing,
Jessica

Hi Jessica,
I agree - I am leaning more towards wildlife - I was just searching online for Loon pictures. Right now the cabin is our vacation home but we hope to make it permanent as soon as it's feasible. It's getting harder and harder to leave the cabin every weekend we are up there!

Looks really nice! Moose are my personal favorite, weird, we have bears and horses, but no moose now that I think of it... in my house I mean! So, how long til it will be feasible to move there? If you are interested in hearing about a business that you can do from anywhere, let me know! I am so happy for you with everything!

Reliv - Thank you for your good wishes! The only moose in Michigan are in the U.P. I tried looking for them when we went to Seney Nat'l Park but everyone told us they are very shy. We hope in 5 years we can be up there permanently....
