Vote to name our Log Cabin!

I need a name for the Log Cabin! I have done relentless searches on the Internet, looked over names of Log Cabin Resorts (I thought Colorado would have had better names) and asked family and friend's opinion. It's so hard to decide. I'm trying to make the name meaningful to our Log Cabin site and our family. I've listed the reasons why I've chosen each name below. Please vote in the right sidebar. Thank you! (And if there is any other name you think I should consider, please post them here!)

  1. The Loon's Nest (I love Loons and there's a nesting pair on our lake)

  2. Tall Timbers (that is the name of our log home design)

  3. Lone Pine Lodge (I only have 1 pine tree of any significant size on our property - hoping to plant more this summer)

  4. Moose Tracks Cabin (I love moose)

  5. Bradford Lake Cabin (Our cabin is located on Bradford Lake)

I haven't voted yet. I scrolled down through your blog looking for some hints for a good name. I ran across that poem "Up North" It sounds like that's what you called it each time you went "up north" . The words seem to describe your cabin and the location. So.. I suggest naming your cabin "Up North"

Up North

It's the place people go to escape...
A place made of cabins, pine trees
and lakes.
But, no matter how far you drive...
There's no sign to say, "you've arrived,"
So, just follow your heart til you find...
your special place that brings peace of mind.
As you breathe in the air and unwind...
Your cares are all left behind.
It's no mystery where the "northwoods" start
When you're "Up North" you'll know...
in your heart.

OK, my vote is #3, Lone Pine Lodge, it sounds mellow and like it is away from it all... but now I am liking Up North as well, maybe incorporating "up north" into one of the other names you like? not creative enough to think of my own, but seems you have lots of good ones to choose from!1

Hi Shelly,

I voted for Lone Pine Lodge. I like the thought of the one lonely pine, and I am after all from the Lone Star State so maybe that helped influence my choice.

But then I read cabinhaus' comment and really agree. You always refer to going/went "up north". I think that would be really original.

Good luck in sifting through all you options.

Hi cabinhaus - How timely for you to mention that poem - I actually have it framed and hanging in our log cabin. Maybe Up North Cabin or North Woods Cabin???

Reliv - thanks for voting! You're right - Lone Pine does sound mellow!

Hi Brandi - see the the comment I made to cabinhaus - what do you think?

Sandy - After my visits to your blog and seeing how much you love nature - I'm not surprised you picked The Loons Nest. :-)

Ladies - please check my latest post. Sandy is right - there should be a prize! :-)

I love the idea of naming your cabin! you pur so much work into it and it deserves a great name! I voted, but after I did, I thought about it more...

What about something like Loon Moose Lodge? Combing both the moose and loons that you love! Just a thought!

Our Cottage up north actually ended up with the name "The Looney Bin" We have a lot of lons that visit - and we all are a little crazy, so it fit!

I like The Loon's Nest. It has so many connotations. I think it has to be my favorite.

Hope those wildfires were not near your cabin.

I live in Indiana and we have a restaurant here called Loon Lake Lodge (I'm not sure if it is a chain or local). Since you like loons so much and live on a lake, I thought it might be appropriate.

From your names, my vote is for #3 - Lone Pine Lodge. Sounds great!

I prefer #2 "Tall Timbers"...I suppose partial to that name because we have a state forest/park called "Tall Timbers" very near my home in Central PA!
Good luck...I hope you will be happy with the drawing.

I like Lone Pine Lodge. It sounds homey and sweet. Of course, if you plant more pines it won't be "lone" anymore!

Great names you came up with. I'm voting for "Lone Pine". It sounds personal and orginal. Although I do like "Loons Nest" too.

I've been watching the news about the fires near Grayling and I was thinking of you. I know your cabin is farther north in Gaylord but that is still close. I hope the rain we got last night help put and end to the fires.

How about a play on words and call your wonderful place "Loon's Inn" or "The Loon's Inn" or "Up North at the Loon's Inn". I could go on and on. I won't, thankfully!

Loon's Nest got my vote...seemed right to me when I looked at the picture again. That gorgeous deck seems a bit like a perch to view your world from...
