Decorative Log Beams

I believe one of the best design elements you can add to your log home are decorative log beams or log trusses. When people visit our log home, they first notice the logs running across our main living area (and then they notice the log staircase.) We purchased 2 pairs of decorative logs and are going to use the 2nd set in the basement. We added extra courses to our basement to have the high ceilings and then will continue our log home theme there. What I'm thinking about doing in the future is adding some hugging beams to the ceiling of the loft wall.

There are a few fellow log bloggers that have decorative logs that I just love. Check out Dianne's loft ceiling at Schrader Landing - her project is certainly coming along. Terri has some very handy people too at Steel Magnolia . When I see their projects it makes me wish I added even more decorative logs.

It looks like the forest brought indoors! It will be interesting to see if my Hub and I can actually agree on the design of our cabin when the time comes. He seems to think we can get by with a lot smaller whereas, realist that I am, wants something bigger. (I don't need more than 2,000 sq ft unlike hime who thinks 1,200 will be enough! Yeah right! Has he forgotten how much junk he has?)

I have convinced him though to do the "D" logs rather than a full log. He was going on about how we "don't need such a big kitchen" when the time comes. To which I repied,
"HEY this is my dream too!"
Ha Ha!

The log beams do look nice but the thought of all the dust they collect made us opt out of using them. (They also seemed to close in the vaulted ceiling in the models we visited.)

Jen & Sandy - glad you like them!

Constance - I say go for the big kitchen! (I'm wishing I did - and will in my "next" log home.)

Catherine - thank you - I got that chandelier on sale and love it too!

Joated - you just reminded me of another cleaning tool I need - one of those extended dusters! Thanks!

Shelley...thanks for mentioning my blog and how much you like the ceilings.

Yep...you do need an extendable duster and also a shop-vac with extensions to keep those ceilings clean and dust free. I used to borrow all the extention tools from all my other vacuums just to get up to the cathedral gables. Sometimes I even had to get out the ladders to get really good leverage in a really high spot.

Happy Dusting...

The beams are wonderful, but it's your light fixture that I want.

I just read another article about those antler chandeliers and I really like them! They look like they belong with the rest of the rustic decorations that belong in any cabin. Thanks for sharing Shelley :)
