Nature days at the Log Cabin

Greg and I are spending a long week at the log cabin and hoping to complete some projects as well spend as much time as possible in the outdoors. We went on a hike on a nature trail nearby (pictures below.) And this morning I was thrilled when we were able to get the Black-capped chickadees to eat out of our hands. They really seemed to like Greg - I think because he was wearing his black fleece. One landed on his head, then his shoulder and then started eating out of his hands. Can I tell you that nothing is more thrilling then having one of these little feathered creatures trust you enough to eat out of your hands?!

This chickadee was walking down Greg's arm like it was a tree trunk to get to the seeds.

This is Jensen's nature trail in Gaylord. It was a beautiful 1 mile hike.

I'm really going to have to practice that. I've tried for the last couple of years without any luck. Glad to hear it's a little warmer up there.

Michigan sure looks like a beautiful place. I have never seen a bird do that. I love the name of your cabin. I wanted to name my blog, Crazy Like a Loon! But I am really not that crazy! I just like the way it sounds!

Wow----I cannot imagine getting them to eat out of your hand. Do you go out there and just sit quietly--with food in your hand???? That would be so neat!!!! One of these days, I may try it... Beautiful walking area also!!!! You are truly blessed.

How wonderful! How long did Greg have to stand there before she landed on him?

We know this thrill as we fed the birds from our hands in Paris! They were not as shy as the ones in my back yard!

It sounds like you're having a lovely time at the cabin, just the 2 of you in full realization of your dream!

This reminds me of my my mom who loves her birds. It's almost like a Walt Disney movie the way they wait for her and as soon as she comes out the back door to fill the bird feeders and the bird bath, wash out the hummingbird feeders and so on, they swoop down all around her. The hummers are her favorite.

We are 3 days out now from Laura's wedding and things are falling into place nicely. I finished all the flowers last night, it wasn't too bad actually.

That nature trail sounds like it's just what I need right about now. I have had to run the A/C the last couple of days during the daytime. Have a great time up there, enjoying every moment of it!

Terri - you said it! :-)

Denise - I bet you can do it!

Picket Fence - it is beautiful! I like "crazy like a loon"!

Betsy - Chickadees are naturally curious and friendly birds - they are the 1st ones to try a new feeder usally. It took Greg less than 5 seconds (but it took me close to 15 minutes!)

Penny - 5 seconds - they like Greg better!

Naturegirl - I would have loved to handfeed birds in such a beautiful place as paris!

Michele - I am relishing this week!

Connie - how nice for your mom! I hope all my birds become that way!

Sandy - thank you!
