We call our Log Cabin the Loons' Nest
A while back I had a contest to name our log cabin and "The Loons' Nest" was the winner! And appropriately so since we have loons on our lake and as many of my blog readers know - I am loony about those loons!
After I saw the cabin sign the good folks received at Magic Cabin (check out their great blog - they are living the life in Alaska!) - I had to have one from the same guy! They were kind enough to send me the link to Matthew Henry's Lodge and Cabin Signs. Matt has such a great selection and had to be one of the nicest people ever. The wooden sign will take him about a week to make. The actual background color will be tan - and the loon will have its' classic red eye.
Anyways, I'm very excited to receive my sign and hang it on my log cabin! I'll post the actual photo once I get it. If you have a name for your homestead - I'd love to hear what it is! Please post it here and how you came up with your name.

Their signs are beautiful and they have an old fashioned quality about them that I just love.
I love the name of your cabin.. When I think of loons, I think of one of my favorite movies, "On Golden Pond." Remember that one???
That is awesome...
I should get one too...
hum... think think think.... of a name...
Mike made a sign at the bottom of the hill, where our road turns in..
"King's Korner"...
I've been coming by your blog and following some of your progresses... everything is turning out so nice and cozy! Can't wait to see where you hang your "shingle". I'm including a link to my blog of a post of where we live up in the UP. It will be 2 years in March when we left Detroit and moved up here. Although we're not a legitimate "log cabin" so to speak, we do live the cabin life. Wouldn't trade it for a minute.
We have a sign that our builder made us for Christmas. It has our name and 2006 on it. Best gift ever!

A belated Happy Anniversary. I have to say that I would love to have a log cabin in the woods, but I married a native NYer and this is as much country as we could compromise on...LOL...
My maiden name is Winter. We call my mom's place "Winter WonderLand"!
I can't wait to see your sign!
Mine is The Aerie.
At 2100 feet on a hillside with hawks, vultures and even eagles soaring in the updrafts (and sometimes below the cabin) it seemed a natural.
As you know, our place is called "Keller's On The Prairie". I may have to get one of the signs too. Your place has sure turned out beautiful. Thanks for coming by my blog. Hope you are having a great anniversary weekend! xoxo.
For the sole purpose of blogging, I always refer to my home as the WIXYranch.
can't wait to see the real sign! We have never thought of a name - I will think on that... the Loony Bin immediately comes to mind! :)
Can't wait to see it!
I bet you wish your sign was already here and hung!!!
I love the one you picked. I think we may get one eventually. But, right now there are more important things to focus on...like finishing the hearth and installing some heat!
Hope you really enjoy your week at the cabin!
Love the name! Our place was supposed to be Grouse Point, but we have had so many grouse casualties (flying into our bay window) that Patrick wants to call it Dead Grouse Point:>( Now I'm trying to think up a new name.
That is going to be a great sign for your home! I have my studio name....Lavender Hill Studio...but no name for my home...I will have to give that some thought.
Denise - that old wooden quality is exactly what appealed to me. :-0
Betsy - thank you - and i loved that movie too!!
Terri - yes - you need one too!
Jane - Thank you so much for stopping by! I will be right over to visit your blog!
Rambling - why thank you!! :-)

Joated - Aerie is a great, powerful name!
Laurie - thank you very much!!
74 - I always wanted a ranch too...
Michele - LOL at loony bin!
Sandy - should be coming this week!
Dianne - we still have so much to do too....I don't think stuff ever gets done on a cabin!
Cassie - didn't know you were a hunter of grouse - LOL - indirectly!
Penny - your studio name suits you to a "T"! :-)
Thank you for the shout out! I'm sure you'll love your sign as much as we love ours.
Looking forward to seeing the real sign.
