Log Cabin Plans & Blogger Tips

I've got some big plans for the log cabin this weekend....

First that deer head... (snicker, snicker)

We'll do a little birdwatching. If these redpolls are still around, then we're in for a longer winter!

We'll be on the lookout for wildlife.

We are also going to start mapping out our landscape plans. I have visions of flowers, some spruce trees and perhaps a couple blackberry bushes.

**On a side note, I wanted to share some Blogger Tips. Especially since the blogs using "Embedded Comments" may not be aware of all the problems with this function. Some of you may want to skip this part, but I wanted to share because I had people help me before.

  1. If you have the "embedded comment" set up on your blog (whereby your comment form is right on your blog front page), CHANGE it in your settings! People from other blogs types have a hard time commenting and sometimes can't comment at all. Also - google blogger has been misfunctioning w/ this set up and has several times in the past. Last night there were several blogs I could not leave comments on - this may be you! Go to settings, click on comments and change to "full page."
  2. If you haven't already, add the "Followers Gadget" to your blog. This makes it easier for people to sign up and keep track of your new posts.
  3. Do you want to highlight a word and have a hyperlink to another page? Then use your mouse to highlight that particular word, and then click on the symbol that looks like a chain above. A box will pop up where you can paste the URL you want to link to. Be careful that http:// is not in there TWICE.
  4. Want to make your photos bigger on your blog post? If you don't have Picasa on your computer, you can use Flickr for free. http://www.flickr.com/ .

Hope this helps!

I am thinking Bunny Ears, aren't you?

With Spring sprung down here, my bird feeders are THE gathering place for our feathered friends. I have seen a couple of new ones this year, don't know what they are though. Maybe I need to get a book from the library?

Thanks Shelley - I made a couple of changes to my blog with your advice. Would you please tell me more about how you make your fabulous photos bigger? I took a class on blogging and could never get an answer to this question that worked!

Deer head..... (hee hee..) oh please post a photo when you have finished your little task! Thanks so much for the blogging tips. I only recently learned how to do a hyperlink. I'm sure many in our community will find them helpful. Now i need to learn how to change my background, and get more creative.

I'll have to look into that "Embedded Comments" function. I never knew it could cause problems. Will it change the format of your comments, or anything?

Your pictures are always so stunning, Shelley! Just curious, but did you take a photography class, or was it something you learned on your own? I really want to learn how to take better pictures.

this time of year is so fun isnt it? planning our flower beds, new addtions to the yards and deck. I"m excited to. I found the most neatest comfortable looking chair at Menards, its almost like a chair for two...its just to pricey right now, gotta watch it to go on sale. I plan on adding an arch this spring and more flower patches.

Sounds like you have some wonderful plans for this weekend! I plan on adding some fresh top soil to my raised veggie beds and get some lettuce, peas and broccoli planted....

Sounds like you have some sneaky plans for that deer-I may have to give that a go too. HA!
So the type of comment setting you use is best I am assuming ? I hope so, cause this is the format I use.
Love the redpoll picture!

Shelley,

I can't help giggle at the plans for Mr. Deer. He doesn't have a clue, does he?

Your cabin looks so cozy. Your fireplace in the corner with the table all anchored down with the snug rug.....just looks great! No wonder you love stealing away there to your cabin and observing all the wildlife!

Have a great weekend there and lots of fun planning your landscaping!

Howdee Shelley,
Have fun at the cabin!
As far as blogger and comments. I personally prefer a pop up window. I suppose that might cause issues with people who have pop up blockers etc.
Have you had any issues with the pop up comment window?

I guess we get to see photos of whatever you do to the poor deer. ???

I like the pop up windows for comments because it allows me to stay on the blog and continue to visit, if I have missed a post or two. You had me checking. This is different then embedded, and I had seen a few complaints from other bloggers about the embedded. I have verified and mine is half window popup instead of embedded. I agree now that I have figured out what you meant by embedded...I hate it when I have to post a comment at one. Thanks for taking that one on.

Carol - you're welcome!

Connie - I went to 2 stores today for bunny ears, I have to find some by tomorrow! And yes - I think you would enjoy a bird field guide from the library! :)

Sandi - I will post step by step flickr instructions in the next few days.

Cedar - let me know if you need help!

April - changing the way your comments are set up won't change your template. You can do the pop up window too. I'm self taught on the camera but will be taking lessons soon because I want to go to the next level of photo taking. I just love it!

Dawnie - I wish we had a Menards! I think the closest one is almost 2 hours away.

Tonya/Alanna - Thank you so much for your visit and comments - I appreciate it!!

Nan - you are very welcome and that you for visiting too!!!

Monica - let me know if you need help - I'll probably post instructions since there seems to be a few who want to know how to do this.

Penny - you are going to have a yummy harvest!

Jen - I like my (or OUR) format best. But the pop up window choice is okay too - except for those who have pop up blocker.

Grammy - I'll post step by step instructions.

Tammy - thank you so much! I can't wait to post pics of my deer makeover! ha!

Sharon - I will!!

pam - thank you and you're welcome!

Michele - thank you! It should be 40 degrees on Saturday!

Miss Mary - I have a lot of shopping to do...ha,ha!

Kath - I am thinking about starting some flowers and veggies inside - can't wait for spring!! Hugs to you too!

Dawn - I think pop up window is fine - though I have a friend who says she has problems. Just the embedded seems frought w/ problems!

leedra - I wish I could ban those embedded comment forms! And yes on the deer pics...

Rondell - you're welcome!

Let me guess..you're gonna embed a speaker in the deer head with a remote microphone. Leave the room when guests arrive, and then speak to them through the disembodied deer head, and really freak them out! :-)

Good blogging tips. Thanks!

- John
