With a little help from his brother and cousin, Greg was able to make more progress on our dock at the log cabin. I'm looking forward to being able to launch my kayak from here instead of driving around to the public launch. (We don't have kayak racks - we just throw them in the back of our SUV and we hang on to the handles while we're driving so they don't slip out. Seriously. I'm surprised we haven't been pulled over!)
Come take a look....
Greg needs to straighten the dock out next weekend and still has one more dock footing to put in.
Here's the Red-winged Blackbird singing to us along the lake path. They love to hang out in the reeds by the lake and sing CONSTANTLY! Geez, I hope they hurry up and get some mates already!
Here we are standing on a completed section of the dock. Look - a better view in which to spy on my neighbors! Ha,ha!

Taking a gander at the neighbors is always such fun!
I'm just glad your kayaks didn't decide to jump out of your SUV by themselves.....what a crash that would be!!
This is quit the undertaking! Enjoy this time of creativity in the garden / water . Thanks for sharing. IT makes my rabbit barn project seem like 'small' beans!
Your dock is coming along! I am waiting for it to be done, then I am coming to visit you, stay in your beautiful guest room and then go loon looking with you, ok?
Hugs,
Penny
It's coming along, slowly but surely...YAY!!! Oh, how I love to look at your pictures, Shelley! They get more beautiful all the time!
your neighbors are going to be thrilled to see you out there on your new dock with your binoculars! you are so lucky to have such a pretty place to look out on!
Greg is making good progress on the dock. I'm sure the neighbors will appreciate it when it's finished and you can keep a better eye on their place. You got a wonderful picture of the Red-winged Blackbird.
Hmmm.... spying,.. no -- just keeping a "watchful eye!"... hee hee. Go for it Shelley! And that dock is going to be a great addition to life at the cabin.
It is looking really good. This will be so much easier than driving around holding onto your kayak. And I sure hope you are not texting while doing this too. :)
I know you wouldn't do that though.....
Your dock will be great! I know you're excited and I can't wait to see it all finished too! Getting a better look at your neighbors is always fun! :)

Hi Shelley, Is that sweet blackbird helping you build the dock???? I hope so... ha ha
You'll love being able to sit out on the dock once it is finished. AND--being able to use YOUR dock for launching purposes will be SO nice. I'll bet you go out in the kayak every single day in the summer---just to see the loons.
Hugs,
Betsy
I am so proud of anyone who can accomplish completing projects like yours. Is kayaking the peaceful, relaxing pasttime that I picture it to be? The more you do at the cabin, the more I want to build one in this state.
Don't be dancing naked on the new dock! Looks like a great place to fish off of!
Oh my gosh you sound like me! The owls are just driving me NUTS! You just want to shout "Male meet Female. Now go for it!"
Not quite sure what MY neighbors would think about that one . . .
:)
You will just love it when it's done and it will be so convinent for you and your kayaks:)

This is so exciting. I can't wait to see it finished. I love seeing and hearing about all of the things you do up at the cabin. That bird is so pretty ♥
Holding on to the kayaks in the back of the SUV - oh, too funny. What a mental picture that creates. LOL Great pic of the blackbird. They are just such beautiful birds.
Shelley: Great job on the dock! What a heavenly view from your home!I can only dream!sigh
Looks like it is coming along nicely. good for you. It is so green and pretty now.
I love the song of the red-wing blackbird. It's one bird I've never seen up at our place even though it is within their range. Having a kayak dock will be a great advantage. Our friend John built us a low dock at the back of the cabin for our sea kayak, but now it have become the dock for Wayne converted boat/writer's retreat. Now we use another low dock for our sit-on kayak. Even so, there are occasional slips and unexpected dips upon entry or exit. - Margy
You sure have a beautiful view there. Watching the neighbors will be fun..wonder if they go skinny dipping? lol.
Thats funny about how you transport the kayaks. Glad they haven't fallen out.
I think we have that black bird here too. Saw one recently with bright red feathers on the wings.
Your dock is going to be so convenient and FUN. I see some great photo opps from their too!
You really are right there in the middle of all kinds of nature Shelley. The RW Blackbird is beautiful. I used to walk at a park and see them regularly, looked forward to it.
Heading over to your Birding Blog!
Before you know it, you'll be enjoying evening sunsets down on that dock, it sounds so relaxing and peaceful!
Connie

I would NOT want to be behind you when your driving your kayaks.
I know you will enjoy your dock. That's a lot of work going on there.

Pete F - thank you so much for stopping by - I appreciate new visitors!
That will be great to have a dock....
Nothing like a glass of wine or cup of coffee at sunrise/sunset on a dock overlooking a lake!
