Have a nice Memorial Weekend!

I feel like I'm always repeating myself, but we're at the log cabin for a long weekend! You're probably asking - doesn't that Shelley do any work? Ha,ha! We have kayaking, hikes, fishing and some landscaping planned. What are your plans for the weekend?

Everyone have a safe Memorial weekend and please remember those that have sacrificed for us and continue to do so! I look forward to catching up with you on Tuesday - my Internet is sporadic.

P.S. On June 6th, I will be exhibiting at the Gaylord, Michigan Arts & Crafts Show, so please stop by my booth (Shelley's Nature Store) if you get the chance! :-)

Animal Lover

I went to the Kirtland Warbler Festival last weekend and I saw everything but Kirtland Warblers - ha,ha! But there were plenty of animals and birds for me to fall in love with!

Me: Greg, can I have him?
Greg: NO! And what is he?

Me: How about this guy?
Greg: Look at all that hair! C'mon!

Me: Oh, oh! How about this beautiful Barred Owl?!!
Greg: You're not allowed to have an owl!

Me: If I was a licensed wildlife rehabilitator I could have all the hawks and owls I wanted!
Greg: Lord help me!

This is the life

Greg bought this frog and placed him by our small pond at our home downstate. I found this funny cuz he's such a "guy's guy" but this Frog appealed to him. This frog is "living the life" he said. Now I'm thinking we should bring the frog to the cabin and see how he likes it.

I was thinking of other items that would make life at the cabin extra nice....(besides my BERNESE MOUNTAIN DOG GREG!!!) I'm thinking a Hammock kind of like this one...

Now who will fetch me my stawberry banana daquiris? Maybe I can train the dog to....well nevermind!

What's Missing?

Do you see what's missing? I seriously need to get an umbrella for this table. I just received an email from Garden Ridge that their umbrellas are on sale for $39! So guess where I'm headed....
All the cashiers wave to me now when I come in!

Additionally, there is something else missing at the log cabin! A Bernese Mountain dog! (Greg, do you hear me?!)

The breeder had contacted us about a new litter but all the females are spoken for. I kind of have my heart set on a female (her size, girls pee nicer than boys, logic like that). But when the pups are 4-6 weeks old I can go visit them.....and you know what that means......hmmmm......

Working on the lake path

Slowly but surely we (well Greg really, I don't have time between hunting for Loons and making fabulous cabin meals!) are clearing the path to get to the lake. Greg purchased some dock footings from a nice gentleman who is on a neighboring lake. In fact he was so nice, he came over and helped Greg stake it. (Thanks B.!)Greg will be building the dock himself. Hmmm.....hmmmmm.....good luck honey!

I can't wait to get Greg's fishing boat in the water. It's driving me crazy seeing it parked in our driveway. I'm having visions that pretty soon we'll have refrigerators and spare tires on our lawn soon if I don't get that boat out of there!

P.S. Want to visit some great blogs? Here are a few of my friends that are well worth the trip! (I got this idea from Wixy who is a great blogger ambassador. Go visit him for sure!)

  1. Want to hear what's going on in the Adirondacks? Then Cedar at Adirondack View is your lady to visit!
  2. One of my newest friends who I'm sure is related to me and makes me laugh out loud - Busy Bee Suz at My Life as a Busy Bee! Don't ask her about the massage she had recently though...
  3. My friend - The Retired One lives in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I admit - that makes me partial to her! She has lovely photos and funny news stories! And she lives in a log home - a lady after my own heart!

I will profile more blogs in the near future!

Signs of Spring

It was a little cold this weekend at the cabin. It stayed in the 50's so I wasn't able to go kayaking to search for my loons. But even though it was cold, I did see signs of spring everywhere...

The trees are blooming...

The tulips are blooming...

It was the first time I saw the gray squirrel running about....he looks a little skinny so I will need to give him some peanuts....

The male Rose-breasted Grosbeaks were singing their hearts out in our trees...

And Mrs. Robin finished building her nest and was laying on her eggs!

Yesterday the twig was brown and bare;
To-day the glint of green is there;
Tomorrow will be leaflets spare;
I know no thing so wondrous fair,
No miracle so strangely rare.
I wonder what will next be there!
