A focal point of the log home

I think the kitchen in a log home (or any home for that matter) seems to be a big social focal point in today's times. When you have an open floor plan, the "cook" can see and still converse with everyone in the family room area. And likewise, people can pull up a seat at the kitchen bar and converse with the cook and nibble on some snacks! It creates a family/friend connection and encourages conversation (a lot in my case! I talk too much!)

I've been picking up some odds and ends for our kitchen. I think it's coming together...

Pull up a seat! Can I get you a cocktail?

I love these kitchen towels. I told my husband he's not allowed to use them - just look at them.

I picked up this ceramic acorn candy dish. Would you like a chocolate kiss?

How about Margaritas? Everything looks great Shelley. Your comment about the towels made me laugh out loud. Kitchen is usually the focal point, and you have done a very nice job.

Since I love to cook and hate doing dishes - I did NOT want an open floor plan! I can hide away in my galley kitchen and enjoy the peace of just me and my creations I am working on! Our dining room/living area are all open though. looks nice and I love the towels!

i would agree that the kitchen is the center of any home. This is where most families often come together and eat along with mingle as well. Any good home has a great kitchen.

Bobbi - I think red to compliment the fall weather!

Sandy - oooh - margaritas sound great for the afternoon - I'll have to pick up some chips & salsa too!

Reliv - I have to admit - sometimes the hubby does get it my way in the kitchen!

log kits - yes - I love that it encourages people to come together.

Penny - sounds great!

Jen - help yourself!

catherine - you are too kind! I am headed over....

Knatolee - glad you like my chairs!

Shelley, sometimes I get the biggest kick out of you. The business about your husband not using the towels in the kitchen. My wife has the same rule for me with our towels. Too much chance that I will come in covered in outboard motor grease and wipe my hands off on her fancy handtowels....a concept I just don't understand....

Oh Shelley, just love the towels! And the rug from your previous post is simply gorgeous!

I've always loved the fact that most log home kitchens are open to the rest of the downstairs. I've found the fact that the "chef" can converse while creating to be wonderful. We have a great friend who loves to create in the kitchen and can spend hours preparing a gourmet meal. At the time he was living on a boat (in Florida), but he loved to come visit us, and loved our kitchen because even though he was busy creating, he didn't miss any of the conversations and fun going on in the great room.

Rob - if I didn't tell him that - then he would think nothing of taking them to wipe down his ATV - ha,ha!

Dianne - I'd love to have that kind of friend that would prepare a gourmet meal for me! That sounds lovely....

I agree, kitchens rule and is the main focal point for entertaining. Yes, I'll have a long island ice tea. I'll be over at about 5 your time to sit there and watch you cook me dinner too!
