Something old, something new

One major piece of furniture I've been missing at our log home was a dining set. I've been scouring all the rustic / lodge stores and magazines. I found one set in Mackinaw city - it was perfect. Dark, round pedastel table, high-backed heavy chairs....I was in love....except the price. There is so many other things we still need to finish on our log home and I couldn't justify breaking our budget at this time.

So I am using the dining room set my beloved grandfather had purchased over 30 years ago and had given to my parents. They have been long divorced and I've been storing it in a warehouse for the past 5 years. The chairs are outdated and need to be recovered. But I have to say - it looks nice mixing old with new things in a log home. Besides - I like having a memory of my grandfather in my most favorite place in the world.

My hubby and I are in the process of buying an old stone cottage with the plan to build a log or cabin home someday on the property. The cottage is all wood inside much like a cabin and I will be using my great grandmother's dining table which just happens to be an old 50's retro chrome diner table much like you would see in Grease. How's that for clashing? lol. Your table fits perfectly.

Good idea!! We did that with many things until we had the money to buy something we wanted that we thought was more log home style, or decided it was really needed.

It is wonderful! A very classic set. When you recover the seats, you could also paint the chairs and table to make them more rustic....just a thought from someone who paints everything!

Penny

So nice to have a family piece. I was gonna suggest a metal table and chairs, 'cuz that's an awful lot of wood you've got there!!! hehehehehe. Really, your place is so warm and welcoming, like a nicely feathered nest. I'm leaving a comment after your "a lot of wood" posting too.

SandyVTW - thanks!!

Sandy - I think you're right, I'm definitely fine for a while!

Jennifer - I took 2 leafs out of it to make it into a small round table - and you're right about the fit. Just perfect for my humble dining area.

Cassie - you made me laugh! Yes - a lot of wood - I need more textures!!

Christy - I'm so glad you like it too!
