When I first met my future husband Greg - the only birds he could identify were cardinals and sparrows. But now he shares my passion for bird watching and is excited as I am when we see a Pileated Woodpecker or a Loon at our log cabin. He didn't laugh when one morning I thought I heard a loon's distress call on the lake and wanted help launching my kayak right away. I paddled like a maniac to the other side of the lake (I know I had created a wake behind me) only to discover that my "distressed" loon had found a mate! Greg was as happy as I was when I reported the news to him.
Just recently it was snowing furiously at the log cabin and I was concerned that the suet feeders were empty. Without a word, Greg snapped on his snow shoes and headed to the trees to refill the feeders.
He loves the birds as much as I do now! And the birdies love him back!

That's so sweet! I felt a little guilty when I didn't throw out bread or anything for the birds today. Do those snowshoes sink down in the snow?- Are they better than boots, etc. (can you tell I've never worn a pair)- lol
Shelley~
That last picture is so very pretty...almost doesn't even look real! What a sweet hubby you have!
You still have lots of snow, I see. Here...it's supposed to be 68degrees on Sunday! Not sure if I'm happy or sad!
Enjoy your weekend!
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥!!! And, ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥!
Now, that is true love! Not many men would go refill bird feeders while heavy snow is falling! Great pictures!
Hugs,
Carol
how cool is that? isnt it neat how our mates will end up enjoying or loving what we love?
Shelley--My hubby is now the same way. He never cared much for the birds when I started watching them last summer. Now---he helps me totally with 'my' birdies!!!! They are now "OUR" birdies!!!1 I got some good pictures this afternoon which I'll post tomorrow morning..
Have a wonderful weekend!!!! We both have KEEPER hubby's don't we????
Hugs,
Betsy
Awww....that's so sweet! We like going to feed ducks at the park near us. One day when I had mono and my dad took me out for a day, we stopped at McDs and got lunch. Then, we were about to leave to go to the park, when, I realized that we didn't have anything to feed them. So, I put on my cute face and asked my Daddy to get a small fry for the ducks(not the best thing to feed them, but..). So he did. It was funny....hee hee..
Love, Joy =D
Awww...that's so sweet! What a loving hubby you have! Taking care of you and the birdies! :)
Love the pics!
Tammy
that is beautiful. I am so glad you found each other! How are you feeling today?
Wow! And he can climb trees in snowshoes! What a talented and thoughtful guy!
What is your very favorite bird?
There's no life without snow shoes....The best way to survive the winters is to just get out in them...
Reminds me of last week, when I looked out of my window and saw my mother walking through the deep snow to feed her dear birds. It actually blesses my heart to see that act of kindness done for our feathered friends. Beautiful photos.
I would say that you have a keeper in Greg, but I suspect that you already know that.
That Greg,.... he's a "keeper!"
What a nice Hubby to feed your birds...
Cam - the snow shoes work great - even in the deeper snow - keeps you almost above it.
April - So much snow that I'm not sure it's going to melt before May! ha,ha!
Jen - LOL!!!
Carol - he is a gem! :)
Dawnie - He even wants his own camera now to take pics of the birds!
Betsy - we definitely both have keepers!
Joy - how sweet of your dad and I bet those duckies were happy! :-0
Tammy - I'm very lucky! :)
Michele - thank you! Still eating oatmeal and ckn soup only - but I think its getting better! :(
A.Joy - My favorite is a tie between the Loon and the Chickadee!
Screen Door - I agree! Life is just easier in Mich. w/ snow shoes!
Judy - your mom is obviously a sweet soul! :)
George - he's mine for life!
Cedar - I think so! :)
Dawn - he is also looking up birdy food recipes now! He's on a mission!
My husband takes care of our feeders, too. He wasn't in to the hobby at first but now, like your Greg, he is an avid watcher.
brings back a lot of memories of feeding the birds with my gramma! what a nice thing that your hubby shares your love of them!
Wayne was just saying before I had to leave the cabin (I'm helping my mom for a few weeks) that he is looking forward to the birds returning. We keep our bird identification book handy and are learning to identify them together. We don't feed our birds. We are afraid to make them dependent on us and not be there all the time to feed them. - Margy
Awwww that's so sweet!!
And I thought finding a mate does equal a "distress" call, LOL!!
Ahhh, ain't love grand?! I was really impressed with Greg's snowshoeing/tree climbing abilities. Quite impressive!
Shelley~ I can't tell if this is a duplicate comment or not.If so,delete,ok? What I said on my first comment is: Ain't love grand?! Was impressed with Greg's snowshoeing/tree climbing abilities. Cool.
Nice. He's definitely a keeper.
Hi Shelley!
What a wonderful man you have, Stush will fill the feeders for me...they are hanging from a tree in the back. In the spring and summer I like to sit in the swing and watch them fly in and out. My favorite is the beautiful cardinals and the occasional blue jays!
I've never worn snowshoes either:)

I must say I am starting to appreciate birds a little more myself. I might just have to get a bird feeder! That was a beautiful picture you took from your kayak.
Have a wonderful weekend!

How sweet of him. How snowy! How long will it be winter there?
Yeah, but can he burp the alphabet?
That is pretty darn special. How cool. Great pic too.
I always enjoy dropping over to see your beautiful pictures. You have a great talent! You capture the beauty of a winter's day so well!
:)Ginger
I just love your winter pictures!
Hugs,
Cathie
So sweet. The quietness of doing those things is what makes it so special. I know, because I have one just like him.
