Fall cooking at the cabin!

Can you feel it? The air is cool, the leaves are showing their reds and golds, and it's time for fuzzy fleece blankets and wool socks. And then the food.......apple pie with a flaky crust, homemade soup and chili.....gets you in the mood to do some fall cooking!

I'm ready to whip my log home kitchen into a cooking frenzy this weekend! And some of my favorite blogs I like to read have some delicious ideas.....
  1. Penny at Lavender Hill shares her secret ingredient for apple pie....
  2. How about some Spiced Lentil & Barley soup from Catherine at Catherine Holman Folk Art?
  3. Bobbi at Rightmeyer Recipes is making tomatoe pie!
  4. Mom2 has a couple yummy things to choose from....Quick & Easy Minestrone Soup or Popeye Meatloaf.
  5. Cooking with Val is sharing a recipe for Maranda's Squash Casserole.

What are some of your favorite things to cook in the fall?

Yummy! Now I've got meatloaf, soup and squash to go with my tomato pie - and then apple pie for dessert!

Thanks for mentioning my apple pie! I love to make black bean chili, pot roast, spaghetti and last night we had chicken and dumplings!

Hey! I'm glad I come around here. I have no recipes to share, but I can say my mother in law makes a pretty good apple pie herself.

I just cook up mischief.

Cliff Note: Although I'm not a cabin dweller, I did add you to the blogroll on my main blog, WIXY's Gone Bananas.

Bobbi - You're all set! Looking forward your next posts!

Penny - I haven't had ckn & dumplings in so long - that sounds good too!

Wendy - I forgot about pumpkin pie - that & apple pie are my favorites!

Braeg - I am laughing at your comment "discuss" - reminds me of Michael Myers on Sat. Night Live in that skit when he played that new york woman. Yep - gotta have icecream w/ the pie.

Mom2 - thanks for the update~!

74Wixy - I'm honored to be added to your blog - thank you! And I've added you to mine as well.

I make 7 Can Soup! It's super easy. I brown a pound of hamburger and add in any leftover brisket or pork tenderloin I have (usually in the freezer) along with browned Chorizo. To that add 2 cans of Progresso Minestrone, 2 cans of ro-tel, 2 cans of pinto beans with jalepenos and 1 can of whole corn drained. (only drain the corn) warm thoroughly and serve with your favorite bread or rolls!

Love Love Love to cook in the fall. In fact, last night the first snow blew, so I came home and baked Toffee Bars. Honestly, I just picked the recipe out of the cookbook and it turned out nicely. I also like comfort foods when it is cool, soups, chilis, stews, MEXICAN food for sure!

Reliv- Michele - you just reminded me! I need to ask my mother-in-law for her enchilada receipe - it is out of this world!!
