I like Pine Cones

I have a thing for pine cones. I'm just starting to realize this. This is my 2nd pine cone lamp that I have purchased for the log cabin.

I also collect pine cones. I like to make bird feeder projects out of them which I'll share in an upcoming post. I also like to put them in a basket at Christmas time. Sometimes I decorate them and scent them, sometimes not. This summer I tried to make a picture frame with them but me and the hot glue gun had a fight. (I may try again.)

But I think I love them so much because they are the fruits of my favorite trees - pine trees. Something so natural, beautiful and another connection to nature. Here is a cute quote I found:

'You can live for years next door to a big pine tree, honored to have so venerable a neighbor, even when it sheds needles all over your flowers or wakes you, dropping big cones onto your deck at still of night.'
~Denise Levertov

I almost forgot, check out this cute pine cone ornament that I picked up! See the little log cabin inside? Aww.....

From this angle the ornament's log cabin sure looks like your log cabin. Special made? You know they say when you get 3 of something it is the beginning of a collection. On this blog I think of your all cozy in that cabin all day. Know better, or you wouldn't be posting birds on the other blog.

I am like you in the fact that I love pine cones too! Our bedroom curtains (from Blac Forest Decor) has them on them, I'll bet I'd be shocked to see how much a part of my decor they are! When we moved her to Texas 15+ years ago, we planted 2 pine trees in the back yard that were 6-8 feet tall. I'm guessing they're close to 25 feet now! We justy love them and I don't give a "ripped potato chip" about all of those pine needles! It's a small labor to perform in order to enjoy all of the beauty those 2 trees give us!

I loved the ornament! I think you shoul pick up a second one and have another give away!

When my kids were small they enjoyed finding the biggest pine cones they could when we were out. We had pine cones in every room of the house!

We don't have a lot of pines in our area...so, no pine cones. We are in mostly mature hardwoods. Hence the red-headed woodpecker's. I wish I could make some pine cone suet feeders too. I'll just have to stick with making suet cakes.

The pine cone is the perfect decor for a log cabin. I always pick one up and bring it home. But I didn't do that at the Grand Canyon because of all the signs and I was afraid someone might see me. ;)
Love your new lamp and Christmas ornament!!

Hi Shelley:
I tried to leave a comment and it wouldn't go through. It kept saying duplication.
I will try again....I was saying that I will give my S.I.L. your blog address as she moved to northern Michigan last year and would love seeing your cabin and bird pictures.
